Ecology and Living Things
MRSGREN
All living things do seven life processes…
M – MOVEMENT
Everything that is alive must move
R – RESPIRATION
Everything that lives gets its energy from something like food
S – SENSITIVITY
Every living thing can sense a change
G – GROWTH
Everything that ages must grow in size
R – REPRODUCTION
Anything that grows seeds must drop them and reproduce a copy
E – EXCRETION
Everything can get rid of its waste
N – NUTRITION
Living things must take in nutrition to grow and repair
IS WATER ALIVE:
For a thing to be alive, it needs to all do the seven live processes MRSGREN.
- Water can’t move by itself but it can with some other movement.
- Water can make energy and sometimes it is also used to make energy.
- Water cannot reproduce
So I would say water is not alive
IS FIRE ALIVE
- Fire can grow
- it can respire to make energy
- it is sensitive to water
- It can consume fuel
- it can excrete gas like co2
But it can not reproduce and make babies.
Therefore it is not alive.
Habitats:
What is a habitat?: Its natural home and living environment
Give five Examples of a habitat:
- Forest
- Dessert
- Aquatic
- Polar
- Grasslands
What is a population of living things?
A population is a group of creatures and organisms that live in the same place.
What is a community of living things?
A community is a creature/organism that interacts and lives in the same area as other creatures/organisms.
- No wings- kiwis didn’t have predators so they didn’t need to fly
- Brown fur-like feathers – to camouflage
- claws- to dig in the ground
- big legs – to stay standing up
- long beaks – to get things deep in the ground
- Black eyes – to see in the dark
- whiskers – to sense how big a space is so they don’t get stuck
